“I’m Michael Cooper…
By profession, I was a senior mechanical engineer, but, from an early age, I grew up helping my father who was a joiner, cabinet maker and coffin maker!
Several years ago on a whim, I bought myself a wood lathe and started making the usual small bowls, pen kits and so on. My manager then asked if I could make an oblique dip pen. After several unsuccessful attempts, I produced one I was fairly happy with.
I continued my hobby, using different woods. The first flanges I used were some Chinese ones but I discovered these were at 45° which were unsuitable for calligraphy. To get around this I started making my own flanges at 52° to 55° angle.
I now make pens to a very high standard, all made by hand. I hope you like my work.”
